How to Make the Ryuk AI Video From One Photo

Your photo stays exactly as it is — same place, light and pose — while a tall death god with spiky black hair, pale grey-blue skin, a huge toothy grin and black feathered wings slowly leans in over your shoulder, takes a loud crunchy bite of a red apple and flashes a peace sign next to your face.

Ryuk is the apple-obsessed shinigami — a god of death — from Death Note, the manga by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata that began in 2003 and became an anime in 2006. Bored in his own world, he drops a notebook among humans and then simply follows its owner around, grinning. That tag-along energy is the meme: cosplay clips of "Ryuk only wants your apples", "Ryuk behind you" shadow edits and, since late 2025, AI photos with the death god standing next to you like a friend. The October 2026 wave turns those companion portraits into moving clips. RemixMeme keeps your photo untouched and adds the lean-in, the apple bite and a peace sign — no notebook, no weapon, no blood.

Where the trend came from

• Death Note begins serialisation; the shinigami Ryuk, who loves apples, is one of its main characters.
• A cosplay clip, "Ryuk only wants your apples", goes viral and keeps growing to more than 6 million views.
• A "Ryuk behind you" shadow-edit tutorial takes off, passing 4 million views.
• Tutorials for AI shinigami photos with Ryuk standing next to you appear and pass a million views.
• "Ryuk companion" portrait tutorials with the prompt on screen spread again ahead of Halloween, and video versions follow.

Before you start

You will need one photo. Photo tips that matter for this template:

• A waist-up photo with some space over one shoulder, so the death god has room to lean in.
• Indoor evening light or a dim street at night looks most cinematic.
• A clear face and a relaxed smile — you will laugh at the end.
• Adults with photo rights only. Fan-made: no official artwork is used.

What happens in the clip

| Time | Beat | |---|---| | 0–4 s | The lean-in — You relax and smile at the camera; the death god slowly leans in over your shoulder, his grin growing, feathers ruffling. | | 4–9 s | The apple — He lifts a shiny red apple and takes a big, crunchy bite, chewing with a huge toothy grin. | | 9–13 s | Peace sign — He turns to the camera and flashes a peace sign right next to your face; you laugh. | | 13–15 s | Hold — The camera stays almost still at the same height for a clean loop. |

If something looks off

• He appears in front of your face → use a photo with more empty space beside or behind you.
• The apple turns into another object → regenerate; every run is a new take.
• Your face changes when you laugh → use a sharper, front-facing photo.
• Extra fingers on the peace sign → run again.

Posting tips

The clip has its own sound: the room tone, a loud apple crunch and a low, playful spooky tune. Add a trending anime or phonk sound when you post if you like.
