What is the Crochet Filter trend, and where did it start?

The crochet filter is not a camera filter but an AI prompt. You give an AI image tool one photo, and it gives back the same picture as if you were an amigurumi doll, the small stuffed crochet doll made by hand from wool and yarn.

Photo requirements for Crochet Filter

• Show the face clearly, in good light, with no sunglasses. The doll keeps the face shape, skin tone, hair and glasses, in yarn.
• Full body or waist up both work. The doll keeps your pose, so a fun pose makes a better doll: a mirror selfie, a peace sign, leaning on a railing.
• Pick a photo with a nice place behind you. The whole place turns into crochet too: plants, the floor, the sofa, the sea.
• Big logos on clothes come out as plain knitted fabric.
• Use your own photo, or a photo of a friend who said yes. Adults only: never a child, a celebrity or a stranger.

Troubleshooting Crochet Filter

• --- — ---
• The doll does not look like you — Use a sharp, front-facing photo in good light, with the face large and no sunglasses. Every run is a new take.
• The face stayed a real face with a yarn texture — Run it again. A photo where the face is not tiny helps the doll face come out.
• Part of the place is not crocheted — Run it again; a photo with a simple background turns into yarn more evenly.
